Colorful Fabric Flowers: CHA Collection - Poppies

Who says we can't play colors with fabrics? We can!

Shopping for fabric has always been fun. With all the eye candy surrounding you inside the fabric store, you would definitely want to buy all the fabrics there.

That's what I did, sort of

I was so excited when I saw the fabrics, the colors were so adorable that I really want to buy all of it. But I have to stick with my budget, so I only bought the ones that were requested by my friend - she specifically wanted the CHA colors of 2014, thus naming this as the CHA collection.

Now, the fabrics were used for poppies and ruffled fabric flowers or yoyos - which sum up the collection.

I made two sizes for the poppies - 1.5" and 2.25" in diameter. The bigger flower is easier to make, I can comfortably burn the sides, unlike the smaller one which is very tough to make. I also used a piece of faux pearl in the center.

#TogetherWeLetter Days 25-30 + MAY Challenge Prompts

I've been lazy for the past week because of the scorching heat, that all I wanted to do was freeze in front of the fan!

BUT BUT BUT...

I finished the lettering challenge!!!

HOORAY!!!

That was a first! Makes me proud of my little accomplishment. I'm really happy! ^_^

I love how #togetherweletter went. I saw progress on my work, creative juices are starting to flow (again, after how many years), I get to discover techniques on how to do my lettering without too many mistakes (and wasted papers. Hihi!) and finding the best time to work on the challenge.

I just wish, and I'm really crossing my fingers, that I'll get to fulfill my dreams anytime soon. Using calligraphy and fabric flowers to create one unique handmade piece.

God willing! ^_^

Cheers to the last week of April Together We Letter Challenge.

Fabric Bows: A Hit and Miss Project

I've never worked with grosgrain ribbons before and I find it amusing that these ribbons were made of fine quality materials that made them heavy and stiff. Which, actually, is perfect for creating bows.

Grosgrain is a very popular type of ribbon used in creating hair accessories. I've seen many pieces made of these and I find them really cute.

So aside from the usual fabric flowers that I'm making, I kind of stepped out of my comfort zone and tried to do the simplest possible bow that I could make.

I bought 7 pieces of grosgrain bows and tried my hand on bow-making. However, since I only bought one size, I totally forgot that I needed a smaller size for the center. Instead, I used my fabrics to complete the bows.

At first, I find it pretty cool incorporating fabric with grosgrains... but in the long run, I find it weird and decided not to use this combination ever again. *giggles*

Anyway, this is just part of a 'trial & error' process in producing pieces. I'm just glad I didn't create too much and just had enough number for the sample bows.

And yes, I learned - grosgrains are for grosgrains. *wink

#TogetherWeLetter Days 18-24: I need more!

This week was fun and a very productive one because I discovered and used different materials on my work. I used smaller paper for my calligraphy and used fabric flowers and colored background taking photos. It turned out great and I might use more on my future letterings. I just need to go through my things, though, to gather everything that I could use.

I also maximized the use of Cocoiro Letter Pen - Brush Tip refill. The bristles are really good and I like using it. And because it is now almost running out of ink, I'll wait for it to get emptied so I can finally use the brush refill on watercolor.

I just hope Scribe Essentials in SM Cebu already have the brush tip refill, because I really want to get one now. And I hope they will sell Tombow as well! *grin*

Enjoy my days 18 to 24 works. *smile*

#TogetherWeLetter Days 11-17: More on Colored Pens and Markers

Going half way through the month, here are my days 11 to 17. I tried using my other pens this week and lessen the use of brush pens for the prompts. I think I have to play with my colored pens and markers more, as I am already used with Tombow and Cocoiro.

As per my progress, I'm definitely satisfied with how my writing is doing now. I still use tons of paper before settling with the final lettering, but as they say - practice, indeed, makes it perfect. *smile*

Bespoke Hair Clip for the Bride

One of the requests that was made by my friend's sister is to make her a hair clip for her wedding that is really simple. I was given a sample of what she wanted, just like the photo below.

the inspiration

From there I used a neutral colored fabric and black seed beads for center accent. It's very easy to make, and the Bride is very happy with the outcome.

Now I'm considering of adding medium-sized fabric flower for hair clips for little girls and bride-to-be.
